From Salento With Love

crystal water
In recent years, Salento has been recognized as a popular holiday destination. There are plentiful resorts on its territory, especially on the coast, and beautiful landscapes, for example, Alimini lakes on the Adriatic coast and the Porto Selvaggio natural park on the Ionian. There are numerous small urban centers, which are of great educative value and tourist interest, and a variety of churches, cathedrals, villas, palaces and farms, scattered throughout Salento, deserve attention as well.
Salento beaches are incredibly diverse – from sandy to rocky, but all are notable for clean and crystal-clear warm sea water. The most popular resorts are Ostuni, Casalabate, Oria, Ugento, Manduria, Porto Cesareo, Gallipoli, Torre del Orso, Otranto, Santa Maria di Leuca, Lizzano, Pulsano, Santa Cesarea Terme, etc. In addition, the coast of Salento has infinite number of watch towers, the first of which were built by the Normans to protect themselves against pirates, sea caves and coves. The coastline of Salento is one of the longest in Italy, which is increasingly popular reason for tourism to the region.

Santa Maria di Leuca
There are almost no industry enterprises on the peninsula, it is an agricultural region, whose inhabitants are proud to grow organic products. Salento produces almost half of the olive oil in Italy, also the products of wine making and cheese production are exported around the world. Local cuisine is known as a top quality food, whether it is pasta or risotto, vegetables or fish, sweets or wine, pizza or seafood… it is always a great taste and high quality with very attractive prices.

Salento’s climate is Mediterranean, characterized by warm/hot summers with low humidity and mild winters. Precipitation on the peninsula is rare in summer, and it occasionally rains in winter.
But Salento is not only a warm sun, crystal sea and divine gastronomy, it is also a treasury of history, culture, natural resources, arts and culinary traditions that has recently attracted the interest and attention also from foreign tourists. Hospitality and cordiality of the local people of the peninsula, the exquisite aroma of Mediterranean cuisine, pristine nature, combined with modern hotel services for every taste make it an ideal place to spend time. Climate, landscapes and art, a strong connection with the traditions make Salento an attractive land that will forever remain in the memory and in the hearts of travelers. So, if you search for a holiday destination with wonderful weather, dreamy beaches, beautiful historic towns, delicious food and wine, and fun for all the family… welcome to Salento!

Quote of the Day

"Watch your thoughts for they become words. Watch your words for they become actions. Watch your actions for they become... habits. Watch your habits, for they become your character. And watch your character, for it becomes your destiny! What we think we become. "

Medieval Siena

San Gimignano
This was my first impression, Siena, or maybe the whole Tuscany, was medieval... I say 'maybe' the whole Tuscany, as I have been only to Siena, San Gimignano, Monteriggioni and Colle Val d'Elsa. My trip to Siena was in the beginning of November, and I was lucky with the weather, it was still warm and sunny... so I had the possibility to see the golden autumn there... and it was amazing, the colors were really vivid and juicy, red, yellow, green and purple...  Another thing I like is that it is surrounded by nature with lots of panoramic views, everywhere you can see fields and hills (I guess it is perfect for hiking or cycling) and at the same time, almost every hill has castle, or fortress-town, or just a house/villa... I visited only three such hill towns: San Gimignano, Monteriggioni and Colle Val d'Elsa. The first two are more famous, but if you are already there, you shouldn't miss Colle Val d'Elsa, it is, without doubt, worth visiting, as it is less crowded, but absolutely not less picturesque ...

The Rules of Online Dating

To begin with, I should say that thanks to online dating site 5 years ago I found my boy-friend, who now became my husband, I guess it would be very difficult for us to find each other without internet help, as I am Ukrainian and he is Italian... So we consider us very lucky:)
Anyway, this is already the end of my online dating experience, I would even say the happy end:) and everything began 9 years ago, when I began to work in international marriage agency as interpreter...

Unruffled Lugano (Switzerland)

November 2012, I went to Lugano, which is Italian-speaking part of Switzerland, and it felt like I was in Italy, as everybody spoke Italian, all the shops, restaurants, buildings, street names, menu in restaurants and cafes were written in Italian and so on... but still I had cultural shock, in good sense though. I was amazed by the atmosphere and people in Lugano, there was some kind of unreal tranquility and serenity, peacefulness and imperturbability, it seemed another world, not just another country:) even if you did not see police anywhere, there was a feeling of absolute security. I don't know if it is true, but they say that in Lugano the children study 4 foreign languages as obligatory in schools, and they have the whole school program on their ipads... as I said - a different world))

Our fears

We all have fears... different kinds of them, from the fear of dark to the fear of being in the center of attention when all eyes are on you, from the fear of spiders to the fear of the own shadow, from the fear of pain to the fear of love, from the fear of closed small spaces to the fear of abyss, from the fear of losing loved person to the fear of sexual abuse, from the fear of people to the fear of being alone, from the fear of failure to the fear of insanity and so on...
We cling to our fears, because they become the part of who we are....

Music that inspires

I think each of us has the list of music that inspires us for different things, there is music that makes us dance, makes us move and do something, gives us energy, inspires us for writing, drawing, or relaxes us, or gives us food for thought, motivates us, brings us back in the past, or takes us in the future, embraces us with dreams... sometimes music can be comforting, painting the life with hope, or being a company for us when we feel alone... there is music that has no need in words, it speaks with notes, it expresses emotions, involves your imagination, takes you inside the melody and on its waves it carries you to other reality... music changes things, transforms the world, colors the life, it plays the strings of your soul, makes you fly over the horizon, amplifies your creativity. Music is so powerful that it makes you live all the tones of the melody like they are your own emotions, it is like to watch a film, the only difference is that it is film in your head, and the same melody gives absolutely different images and inputs to different people.

How many really happy couples do you know?

Maybe it is only my impression, but I see very few happy couples around me... did you notice how many couples there are who seem strangers to each other, who show no affection, or even worse, who show irritation and sometimes even hatred to each other... and I am not talking only about the couples who have been together for years, but also young couples, who continue to stay together even if they are not happy, but because they have already got accustomed to each other, and prefer to find feelings outside of a couple, instead of changing something in relationship with their partner, or if this doesn't work, changing a partner...

We live in the ice age

Some interesting facts and theories about glacial age:

Ice age is a period of long-term reduction in the temperature of the Earth's surface and atmosphere, resulting in the presence or expansion of continental ice sheets, within a long term ice age there are cold climate 'glacial periods' and intermittent warm periods 'interglacials'. Ice age implies the presence of extensive ice sheets in the northern and southern hemispheres, by this definition, we are still in the ice age that began 2.6 million years ago, because the Greenland and Antarctic ice sheets still exist. - Wikipedia

Do you know who you are going to be in 10 years?

Recently my sister sent me one youtube video with an advice-exercise from Alexey Yanovsky, millionaire from Russia, who lives now in New-York. I found it very interesting and decided to make it today. As it seems to me very motivating and stimulating, I think it worth sharing it with you also:) The first thing you should do is to imagine next 10 years, how they will be for you. As Alexey Yanovsky says, we usually overestimate what we can do during one year, but always underestimate what we can do during ten years.

The Untouchable

Yesterday i saw a great movie  - The Untouchable, actually this month was quite successful for good movies, for the whole last year i watched only around 5 high quality plot films, instead already this January I happened to watch The Iron Lady, The Cloud Atlas, The Artist and now The Untouchable. The latter is a French movie Intouchables, it is a very touching and refined movie, but not the one that makes you feel sad, vice versa it gives you the understanding how beautiful and valuable the life is, and that there is always a place for happiness and love in your life even if you had an accident and your whole body remained paralyzed from the neck and down... it also shows what a great courage you should have to continue to live day after day without giving up to depression, being bound to a wheelchair...  This movie also opens the argument of the pity to handicapped people, who are in real life usually treated with pity, instead of being treated like normal people so that they can forget at least for an instant what happened to them... that's why the two men soon became friends, despite the social, educational and economic differences, because they made each other feel normal and equal. The story is also full of humor, the roles are excellently played by actors...

I love Paris!!!!!!!

As I already wrote in previous post, my trip to Paris was in September, there were some sunny days, but I had the chance to experience rainy day also, and as everybody knows Paris in rain has its own charm))) it is quite fascinating to walk under umbrella along the streets, bridges, embankment of Paris, especially when it becomes dark and all the lights are on, with the wet roads reflecting them, you feel like a character of some movie about Paris))

pont alexandre III
Anyway, the half of the rainy day I spent in the Louvre, and when i say the half of the day, i do not exaggerate, as you really need minimum 4-5 hours to spend there if you want to have just a quick look at what it contains, and if you want to have also an excursion with a guide, who will explain everything about all the items present in the Louvre, it takes time....

Street Musicians

In the past i never paid attention to street musicians in my city, or while travelling... i mean i do love music, different kinds, it is just that i never noticed street musicians or thought of them consciously, even when i stopped in the street to listen to their performance. But when i went to Paris, i guess my expectations were to hear typical french music everywhere in the streets, maybe because in every movie about France and especially about Paris you can hear this music:) anyway, my trip to Paris was in september, and it was not hot already, but i can't say that it was cold also, but surely it was very quiet, and at that moment i understood how street musicians are important... only when i felt their lack, i learned to appreciate their work. I should also admit that French melodic language was like a music for me, it is very captivating the way parisians speak, i guess when i finish to learn Italian language, the French one will be the next)))

At the end, i did find one street musician in Latin quarter, who played accordion, and it was like a balsam for the soul))) after that trip to Paris i promised myself that i will always give some money to the street musicians, whose performance i like, because if each person who likes the performance puts even a coin in a hat of musicians, they will never disappear from the streets, it is like to pay for listening to your favorite music when you walk in the streets:)

new era B.G.

I feel real adrenaline when i see videos like this one.... I haven't even realized how much information is passing through us, we do have now an unlimited access to information,  compared to a century ago, or even 50, 20, 7 years ago... Really, how we were able to live without Google, who did we ask all our questions???

A Fine Balance

A very interesting book, which describes the life of people in India in the times of Indira Gandhi ruling. it describes the life story of several characters from different backgrounds, whose destinies intertwined in The Emergency period. it is also a very psychological tale, as it shows how different people cope with difficulties, and in some cases tragic events, in their life in different ways. Rohinton Mistry reveals a variety of topics, such as religion, politics, destiny, faith, love, friendship, compassion... it was a pleasure to read this novel, i found it very touching, fascinating, the one that leaves a sign in you, and that gives you a food for thought...

i loved the ending of this book, it reminded me that many times we interpret people's behavior and feelings in a wrong way, we think that in this situation they feel what we would feel if we were in this situation, instead it is not so, not at all... sometimes we feel compassion for people who maybe are happier than we are...
